If Reiki is not a religion why do we have a Reiki prayer?

In my last post I set a 21 day challenge to anyone who had Reiki or who were yet to receive Reiki 1 to self heal. Having only said a few day's earlier that Reiki is not a religion, I realised that the use of the word prayer implied that you were praying to someone.

Now while you are more than welcome to introduce your religious belief into this prayer, the prayer itself is not in fact a prayer in the stereotypical way.

If you study my Reiki 1 course you will learn that I encourage you to develop your own opening prayer using whatever feels right to you.

So lets break down this prayer so that you understand exactly what is happening in each line.

'I wish to channel the universal life force energy

with the help of Dr. Usui and all the Reiki Masters past and present. Under the protection of the Archangels,

I ask to be grounded before, during and after.

I ask permission of my higher self.

And so it is.'

Lets break it down line by line. First of all when you work spiritually in any area healing, meditation, mediumship, even psychic you need to set your intention other wise you are just going to be talking to yourself so the intention here is:

I wish to channel the universal life force energy

with the help of Dr. Usui and all the Reiki Masters past and present.

If you are a christian you may decide to include God the father, Mother Mary or Jesus Christ in that case you would say

I wish to channel the universal life force energy

with the help of God the father, Mother Mary and Jesus Christ along with the guidance of Dr. Usui and all the Reiki Masters past and present.

Logically, Jesus was himself a great healer, so for the same reason you include Dr. Usui pronounced (You see) and all the reiki masters past and present, you may wish to include him even if you are not a christian. If you are going to channel energy, having as much wisdom and power behind you as you can, can only be a good thing. It also means that they will guide and help you as you work.

Under the protection of the Archangels,

Anytime you do anything spiritual you need protection. As I discussed with one of my students earlier when you enter the supermarket and you find yourself getting irritated and frustrated when logically there really is no reason for it then there is a really good chance that you are wide open to all the energy of all the people who have walked those aisles. If someone is walking just ahead of you and they are depressed or upset, you may find yourself picking up on their emotions. You may bump into someone who you know who is having a rough time and by listening to their trouble you carry that burden home with you. Yet if you put up your protection you can continue to listen but the protection will mean that you aren't effected by it. The person feels better for having unburdened but you haven't taken their emotions away with you. So why have I chose the Archangels to protect? Most major religions actually mention the archangels in their holy books and even if you know nothing about them most people will know what an angel image looks like so they can relate to them. But as I said to my student earlier you can just as easily change that to a loved one in spirit. If you have worked with or know your power protection animal then you can change that line to them. As long as you ask for protection in whatever form feels right to you then you will be protected.

I ask to be grounded before, during and after.

Being grounded is very important before and after working in a spiritual area. You need a good foundation to build on and there is no better way than keeping your feet firmly locked on the ground. This will help you concentrate and bring you focus as your energy is connected to the Reiki or universal life force energy.

I ask permission of my higher self.

Why do you need permission especially from yourself if you are self healing? You should never force healing on anyone no matter how much you think it will help them. It must be their choice and for their greatest and highest good.

You ask permission of your higher self because the higher self is spiritually more pure and it knows your life path and how you need to proceed. There maybe a reason why you are not to be healed to get you to a precise place and moment in time for example to meet your soulmate, or to simply put you in the right place at the right time.

And so it is.'

This is one of the most important lines. 4 simple little words which are your way of telling the universe that you expect all of the stuff before it to happen. It's a bit like putting a stamp on the outside of the envelope. If there is no stamp then the letter doesn't get sent. You can also finish with Amen or thank you.
